From the Gridiron to the Office:

CPA Firms Create Super Bowl Wager for Charity

Published:  February 7, 2011

With the Packer win yesterday, Kolb+Co. public accounting firm in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Schneider Downs, public accounting firm in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, will donate $2,250 to Children’s Hospital and Health System Foundation.

The two independent accounting firms created a clever Super Bowl wager to cheer on the teams and raise money for charity. “We were able to involve both offices in a team spirit day, where every employee could support their team through casual dress when they make a $5 donation, and the firms agreed to match their respective employees’ donations.” said Tom Luken, President and CEO of Kolb+Co. “We agreed that all of the proceeds will be donated to a charity selected by the winning office. With the Packer win, we will be donating $2,250 to Children’s Hospital and Health System Foundation.”

To up the stakes, Raymond Buehler, Schneider Downs managing partner, suggested that the losing fan should wear the opposing team’s apparel. “It is all in good fun and for a good cause,” Buehler said. “I’ve been told that an Aaron Rodgers jersey and foam cheesehead is on the way to our office.”

The firms are frequent collaborators through their membership in IGAF Worldwide, an association of independent accounting firms comprised of firms located in 60 countries throughout the world. Buehler is the current Chair of the IGAF World Board. Luken is a previous member of IGAF’s North American Board of Directors.
